Jimi Hendrix grandmother, Zenora Moore, also known as Nora, was born in 1883 in Georgia to Fanny and Robert Moore Sr. Fanny was of Cherokee and African American descent, while Robert was a freed slave. Nora
developed an interest in vaudeville acts during her teenage years and started performing in her early twenties. She joined a traveling vaudeville group with her sister Belle Lamar and became known for their extravagant costumes. It was during one of these tours that she met Bertram Philander Ross Hendrix, a stagehand, and a bond began to develop between them.
